MAC Cosmetics has truly outdone themselves with their lipsticks, which are basically the Beyoncé of their product lineup. Seriously, these lipsticks have achieved cult status and are loved by lipstick devotees all over the world.

MAC Lipstick Twig Review
Before I start off with my MAC Twig review, here’s some short and sweet info about this beautiful MAC satin lipstick:
- MAC Twig is a permanent range lipstick.
- It’s available as a full-sized lipstick and a mini version.
It’s available at any MAC counter or MAC Store. You can also buy it online at the following webshops:
What colour is MAC Twig?
MAC Twig is a nude lipstick with brown undertones. In my experience as a make-up artist, I’ll say it’s a great colour for deep and medium skin tones.
Yet, what I love about this warm neutral colour is that it looks great with any different skin tone: white, black, yellow, mixed or Indian skin tones. In other words, it doesn’t necessarily matter what skin tone you have.
I’ve witnessed this beautiful color on different people. On some, Twig turns out like a pink lipstick with brown tones, but I’ve also experienced a brown pinkish result on others.
This shouldn’t be a big surprise since MAC Cosmetics describes Twig as a “Soft muted brownish pink” shade on its own website.
To me this beautiful colour is a typical mlbb shade -my-lips-but-waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay-better. In other words it’s a perfect nude shade to my warm and mixed medium skin tone. See picture below.
Coverage & finish
In my experience, MAC lipstick Twig has an opaque finish. I’d say the coverage is very good and it stays on quite well.
For example, when I apply it in the morning, it definitely stays on until the end of my work day. This means I experience a coverage of 8 to 9 hours. I kid you not.
As you may undoubtedly understand, it’s one of the reasons I’ve been wearing MAC Twig on a daily basis lately.
Keep in mind, if you eat heavy meals during lunch time, you won’t be able to wear Twig until the end of the day. In that case, You’ll probably wear it for 4-5 hours.
Furthermore, because of its satin finish MAC Twig is easier to apply than shades from MAC’s matte range. It glides on your lips with ease with just 1-2 swipes.
It feels incredibly comfortable on the lips and doesn’t dry them out throughout the day.
What’s a satin finish?
MAC Cosmetics has some fantastic bright matte shades that I absolutely adore. But here’s the thing: their matte lipsticks can sometimes emphasize dry patches and fine lines, which is a bummer.
However, the pro’s of using a MAC lipstick with a satin finish is that you won’t experience these issues.
MAC claims their satin finish has “a creamy Lipstick formula with a soft cushiony feel [and] buildable coverage” which will last up to 8 hours.
So, MAC’s satin finishes are best compared to a moisturizing lipstick with a finish that’s somewhere between matte and creamy. This literally means MAC Twig has a semi-matte finish with a little bit of sheen.
Just a tad bit, so don’t expect too much sheen. If you ask me, it’s the best of both worlds.
Another positive aspect of owning a MAC satin finish lipstick is that you can use it as a blusher too. Especially when you have a dry to combination skin. Just add a hint of colour to your cheeks and you’re good to go.
Should you grab it or leave it?
Well, let me tell you, I am seriously impressed with the overall performance and wearability of the MAC Twig lipstick. It’s got this incredibly creamy formula that just glides on like a dream, giving you beautiful coverage.
MAC Twig is one of my staple lipsticks when it comes to nude lip colors. I bought this iconic product a long time ago and it’s a perfect lipstick shade for everyday wear.
What’s great about this shade is that it’s absolutely suitable for office goers. So, when you rock this perfect shade at work your boss definitely won’t complain about you wearing makeup looks with bright colors to office.
In fact, I dare say that this satin finish lipstick is the perfect neutral color, especially for those with dusky skin tones. It even outshines other popular MAC lipsticks like:
- MAC Mocha,
- Mehr,
- Taupe
- or Velvet Teddy (a customer favorite more suited to those with fairer skin tones).
Perfect neutral lipstick?
What I love most about Twig is its versatility:
- You can rock it as an everyday shade for that subtle, natural look
- or pair it with a bold eye look for a more glamorous effect.
Seriously, it’s a shade that suits a wide range of skin tones and has become a a staple in my lipstick collection.
MAC Twig is a true gem and there’s a big chance this will become one of your favourite MAC lipsticks too.
Now, if you’re into more subdued colors, then you might want to check out MAC lipstick Mehr. It’s the cool alternative to Twig, and to give you a complete review, let’s compare the features of these two beauties.
What is the difference between MAC Twig and Mehr?
It’s always fun exploring different lipstick shades and finding the perfect match that suits your skin tone and personal style.
With so many options to choose from, it can be overwhelming to decide on the right color. That’s why I have taken it upon myself to compare two popular MAC neutral lipstick shades: Twig and Mehr.
These two shades may seem similar at first glance, but upon closer look they have distinct differences that make them unique. So, if you’re considering adding Twig or Mehr to your makeup bag, keep reading.
Shade difference
When you compare MAC lipstick Twig and Mehr side by side, you can see a real difference:
- Twig has a warm, rosy brown hue.
- MAC Mehr is a mid-tone mauve pink shade.
Basically, Mehr is like the cool, pinker cousin of TWIG. When you check out the swatch picture below, you’ll immediately notice their undertone differences.
TWIG, with its lovely rosy brown shade, has warm undertones while Mehr veers towards a delightful mauve pink hue with cool undertones.
Now, when I swiped TWIG on my arm, it seemed darker than I anticipated. So naturally, I assumed it would give my lips a more brownish tint.
But guess what? It surprised me. It actually looked much lighter on my lips.
And not just that, it transformed into a lovely pink shade, thanks to the natural pigmentation of my lips. Isn’t that amazing?
Finish difference
Another aspect to consider is the finish of these two shades. MAC Twig glides on smoothly and feels comfortable on your lips thanks to its creamy formula. It provides a decent amount of hydration and doesn’t accentuate any dryness or imperfections.
In contrast, Mehr has a matte finish, which offers a longer lasting color payoff. While it may feel slightly drier on your lips initially, a lip balm or lip primer underneath can help alleviate any potential dryness.
